Welcome to Our Skiing Activities!

Skiing 0000-00-07

INTRODUCTION

Cross-country (X-C) skiing is a wonderful aerobic sport and is an excellent way to avoid wintertime “cabin fever.”  XC Skiers have fun, get plenty of exercise, enjoy wonderful companions, and find that wintertime can be an excellent time to enjoy the outdoors.  Many members find skiing and snowshoeing in the woods gives them a sense of peace, serenity and renewal.  WTC offers a full schedule of trips each winter.  Most weekend trips use upper New York State venues – the Tug Hill Plateau or the Adirondacks – and snowshoeing has regained popularity.  We hope weather and economic circumstances continue to allow us to offer reasonably priced trips to snow country accessible by car for weekends.

On the trails, we usually separate into groups of comparable ability to maximize enjoyment for everyone, and many of the venues offer rentals, lessons, and ski package sales so beginners are easily accommodated.  There’s time for socializing on the trail and in the ski lodges or warming huts, but the happy hours are always a special time to reminisce and tell stories about the day’s activities. After a day of enjoying winter sports, we’re ready to complete the day with dinner at the lodge or at nearby restaurants.

PLANNED

We ski on most winter weekends in January and February in New York state and northern PA with a one-week trip to places like Lake Placid, NY and Val-David, Quebec, Canada, and Jackson, NH.  While the weekend locations may seem distant, the 5 to 6-hour drives are almost completely on very good interstate roads. The outline of the schedule appears in the November club Bulletin and the full schedule is published in the December Bulletin. Come to the XC-Ski calendar introduction/social at the in early November for details and sign up for trips. You may view the full schedule below.
